In 2022, the retrospective of Christian Frosi, the personal exhibition of Dora budor, installation by Anri Sala at the Palazzo della Ragione with the collective exhibition Dancing plague and the new display of The Impermanent Collection. During this time, GAMeC Radio celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Gallery.

In 2023, the personal exhibitions of Viviane Suter and Rachel Whiteread with the third great chapter of The material trilogy. GAMeC Radio bECOMES “Capital city”.

The dematerialization of processes, the conservation of memories and the ecological turning point will be the three main themes investigated by GAMeC during the next two years of the program, under the direction of Lorenzo Giusti.

Radio GAMeC 30 years
To celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of GAMeC, Radio GAMeC will retrace the history of art over the past thirty years, identifying a representative element for each past year, and producing as many podcasts from a series of interviews with international guests and distributed on various podcast platforms.

The Impermanent Collection # 3
Since 2018, The Impermanent Collection platform highlighted the hybrid nature of the GAMeC collection, reflecting its dynamic character. The third exhibition of the cycle will focus on the 2000s, with a selection of works produced over the past twenty years. This core of works will be coupled with works by Italian artists of Generation Y called upon to dialogue with the chosen themes.

Dancing plague
The Premio Lorenzo Bonaldi per l’Arte – EnterPrize is the first international competition dedicated to young curators (under 30). In March 2022 the exhibition Dancing plague will open at Spazio Zero, the winning project of the 11th edition, rewarded for its imaginative character. The project orchestrates various media and experiences, reflecting on dance, body and disease from an original angle, through the works of Benni Bosetto, Ufuoma Essi, Klaus Jürgen Schmidt, Lito Kattou, Petros Moris, Eva Papamargariti, Konstantinos Papanikolaou, Mathilde Rosier, Michael Scerbo and Elisa Zuppini.

Christian Frosi
One of the most appreciated Italian artists of his generation, Christian Frosi (1974) made the ephemeral a constant element of his artistic production. Ten years after his departure from the artistic scene, GAMeC is devoting a retrospective exhibition to him, to review his production and contextualize it, with the aim of preserving its history and preventing his work from being defined exclusively by the exceptionality of his silence.

Anri Sala
For the Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo, the artist of Albanian origin Anri Sala (1974) designs a contextualized re-adaptation of his last major production: The time is gone. The computer-generated imagery installation will connect visitors with a magnified image of a record player floating in a space station, playing a new arrangement by Olivier Messiaen Quartet for the end of time for clarinet and saxophone. Its notes propagating throughout the hall in conjunction with flashes of light that follow the rhythm of the music will reveal the architectural lines and frescoes contained in the ancient hall, thus extending to the origins of local public history the bridge between the past and the present, between memory and projection into the future.

Dora budor
For her first solo exhibition in an Italian museum, artist of Croatian origin Dora Budor (1984) will create a project closely related to the spatial qualities of Spazio Zero, in which the characteristics of the given context are amplified, dislodged or re- in circuit. Conceived as an extension of the artist’s exhibition at Kunsthaus Bregenz (2022), a number of works in the exhibition will concern architecture as a tectonic, infrastructural and gender system.

Radio GAMeC Capitale
The year in which Bergamo and Brescia will become the Italian capitals of culture, Radio GAMeC will bring to life a rich program of inquiries and in-depth studies devoted to the most pressing questions of contemporary times, with particular attention to the theme of the ecological turning point. and the reconversion of processes. Thanks to a recording studio inside the museum and a new mobile device to reach different points of the vast territory of the two provinces, Radio GAMeC Capitale will broadcast regularly on key themes of the present and opening up the cultural experience to public participation.

February – May 2023
The material trilogy
The third and final major exhibition of the cycle began in 2018 with Black hole and next in 2021 with Nothing is lost, will explore the theme of dematerialization by linking the research on the vacuum initiated by the first movements of the historical avant-garde with the investigations on the flows, started in the first years of computerization and continued through the post-era era. -numeric through the use of new languages ​​and simulated realities. Occupying all the spaces of the museum and with a part developed exclusively online, the exhibition will welcome some of the great protagonists of art history as well as artists of the most recent generations.

Viviane Suter
The works of Argentinian-born artist Vivian Suter (1949) recount the intimate bond that keeps them linked to the vital forces of the environment from which they originate. After moving to Guatemala at the age of thirty-five, since 2005, when most of his works were submerged during the passage of Hurricane Stan, the artist has opened his research further to the endless possibilities of chance, accepting metamorphosis as an essential element of art and painting. The exhibition, the artist’s first to be organized in an Italian museum, will bring together an important series of paintings by Vivian Suter, produced during the different phases of his career.

Rachel Whiteread
One of the most famous English artists of her generation, Rachel Whiteread (1963) reflects on the memory of places, questioning the relationship between emptiness and fullness, between past and present, creating sculptures close to architecture can reach very large dimensions. For the exhibition at Palazzo della Ragione, the artist will create a set of new works inspired by the architectural context, thus creating a new link between the past and the present, between material history and the modern culture of form.
