2022 is shaping up to be an amazing year for Andrew Cushin.

At just 21, the Heaton singer-songwriter has already made an impression on legendary names in the music industry, having worked with Noel Gallagher and Pete Doherty.

And now the Geordie musician has released the title track from his debut EP after signing with the Libertines frontman’s Strap Originals label.

Cushin’s new song, “You Don’t Belong,” addresses the struggles faced by young men struggling with issues of identity, belonging and mental health.

The powerful tune will feature on his new four-track EP, which will be released on April 22.

Cushin worked with producer Jason Stafford on “You Don’t Belong”, recording the song at the Albion Rooms, the Libertines’ studio in Margate.

“This track is the start of a new journey for me,” Cushin said.

“We’re on a new label, have a new band and are ready to release some catchy, high energy material.

“‘You Don’t Belong’ still features the lyrics of a typical ‘Andrew Cushin’ song, but the synthesizer sound, indie riffs and big drum patterns take this record somewhere else.

“It’s a new sound that I hope everyone will like.”

Cushin’s North East roots and honest songwriting have drawn comparisons to Sam Fender and he has already gained huge support in Newcastle with sold-out shows in his hometown, including gigs at The Boiler Shop and The Cluny.

The release of his new material comes ahead of a big year for Cushin, who are due to play a huge homecoming show, Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus in Newcastle on June 9, headlined by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Noel Gallagher not only championed the young Geordie, but also produced and played guitar on his track “Where’s My Family Gone.”

Pete Doherty is also taken with Cushin’s talent for creating great anthems from songs that explore social issues; He first signed Andrew to his Strap Originals label, then took him on tour with The Libertines last year.

In April, Cushin will hit the road with The Sherlocks on a series of dates, including a show at Newcastle University on April 30.
