Spencer Brown Launches New Label, Releases 18-Minute Song: Listen – EDM.com

Spencer Brown takes his art into his own hands.

While longtime fans know him for great releases on record labels like Anjunadeep and mau5trap, the famed DJ, who has been named one of EDM.com‘s “Best Music Producers of 2021”, has now launched its own label diviine.

By developing his own record label, Brown afforded himself complete creative freedom with each release. To that end, he has now launched diviine with a double-sided single titled “Forbidden Flow / 18 Min Loop,” and each track is about his artistry as a whole.

“Forbidden Flow” embraces a heady four-on-the-floor rhythm as a sultry vocal takes center stage. “18 Min Loop,” on the other hand, is self-explanatory, running at exactly 18 minutes, and taking listeners on a hypnotic progressive house journey.

In a statement shared with EDM.comBrown explained the motivation behind launching her own label.

“Streaming has provided an incredibly convenient way to consume music, there’s no denying it. We artists have to create a ‘shorter version’ or a ‘streaming-friendly version’ for every track we create. I I totally understand the premise if it’s a radio-friendly release on the track,” Brown explained. “But some music isn’t necessarily made for radio. With progressive music, it’s a journey. I like to foreshadow, and the elements come and go as the song progresses. It’s an art in itself to hold someone’s attention for an extended period of time. Art is art. The track is the track. If it’s three minutes, great! If it’s 18 minutes, great! It should be.
