Philadelphia Police said the suspects were in a gray or silver Subaru Forester when they shot the victim, who was waiting for his next client.
This happened around 2:49 a.m. Monday on the 4500 block of Wayne Avenue in Germantown.
Arriving officers found the 45-year-old victim inside his black 2013 Lincoln MKX suffering from a gunshot wound to his left hand and chest.
He was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition.
Anyone who recognizes the vehicle is asked to contact the police.

The victim told investigators he was working as a Lyft driver at the time and was arrested in the neighborhood while waiting for his next job to be dispatched.
While in his car, police said another vehicle pulled up beside him and occupants requested directions to a gas station, which he provided.
Shortly after, the vehicle returned two more times.
The third time, according to police, the vehicle stopped and two men got out; a man was armed with a gun and reported a robbery.
The victim said he started to fight with the suspects when the gunman fired once.
The bullet hit the victim in the left hand, which went through him to the chest. Police said the men got back into their vehicle and fled to Berkley Street.
