Earlier this month, Grimes announced that she had completed the recording of her sixth studio album. Describing the “vibez” of the record, the artist explained that the concept is “space opera,” the record revolving around a lesbian romance with AI.
Now the musician has teased a snippet of a new track – titled “100 Percent Tragedy” – on social media. According to the post, however, his label doesn’t want to release the song. “My label thinks it’s not a single, what do you think? She wrote on TikTok. “Imo, this song should have a music video. “
In the clip, the singer dances in slow motion with a flowing fan under a pink light, while the dance-pop club’s anthem plays in the background.
Grime’s latest album, Miss Anthropocene was released with the independent label 4AD. Her last album, however, will be made with Columbia records, after the singer announced that Miss Anthropocene would be his “last album for my crappy label”.
Otherwise, Grimes revealed via Instagram that she is joining the Discord streaming platform to play games with fans and drop unreleased music.
“Join the Grimes discord and play games with me, and we’ll soon start releasing a bunch of new music in Discord 2 Xxxxo updates,” she said in the caption. So far, that has included a track, which would be called “Shinigami Eyes,” which was shared on the platform in June.
Pop musician Raye publicly expressed her own frustrations with her record company, Polydor, last month saying they were holding back the release of her debut album. “I did everything they asked me, I changed genders, I worked 7 days a week, ask anyone in the music game, they know”, a- she declared in an emotion series of tweets, which sparked conversations about how record companies mistreat artists.
Elsewhere, Grimes announced last week (July 17) that she would join will.i.am and Alanis Morissette as judges on “the world’s first series of avatar singing contests,” Alter ego. Similar to Grimes’ digital avatar ‘WarNymph’, which was revealed on social media to promote Miss Anthropocene last year, while pregnant, the show “will merge talent and technology” as contestants compete against each other as their “dream avatars.”
